KOLKATA: State environment minister Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar has urged the student community to save the earth by planting more trees. "Please plant more trees. That does not cost anything but will leave the world a better place for the future generations," the minister appealed before students of several colleges present at a seminar organised by Muralidhar Girls' College.
The minister's call comes at a time when the city has been largely denuded of green cover through years of tree felling for road widening, flyover and metro projects. Though a compensatory plantation law requires five saplings to be planted to make up for the loss of each full-grown tree, it has hardly been followed. Worse still, pre-Monsoon plantation drives have dried up in the past couple of years, leading to a marked loss of greenery in Kolkata.
Ghosh Dastidar promised all help to college students and teachers should they evolve a green project. "If you have any specific project, we will be happy to help with details or funding," the minister said at the international seminar on environmental interface titled 'An interdisciplinary approach towards sustainable development'.

Planting Trees is the simplest way to combat
climate change and global warming: Trees breathe in Carbon Di Oxide
and through the process of photo-synthesis create food for themselves and
breathe out Oxygen.
At
Sustainable Green Initiative, we plant trees to help the fight against climate
change and also hunger, poverty and rural migration. By planting a tree you
help in doing your bit to mitigate your carbon footprint and carry on the fight
against hunger, poverty and climate change.

warming can be, to a very great extent reduced by planting trees. Sustainable

fight hunger, poverty and rural migration.
We work with marginal/ bpl farmers
to plant fruit trees on land resources that they have access to. And ensure
that your investment goes a long way to mitigate climate change, hunger,
poverty and re-ruralization.
