SGI India wishes you a clean green and sustainable happy New Year 2015

Happy New Year.

Our grateful thanks to all of you for having helped us plant and nurture over 15,000 trees across Delhi NCR, West Bengal and Uttarakhand. Many of these trees now bear fruit and provide nourishment and income to old-age homes, orphanages and similar communities.

Here is one more thing you can do to help make this world a better and sustainable place.
Plant an Idea, change a life: "Going green" doesn't have to be an uphill task that means changing one's lifestyle in toto or making sweeping life changes. Small and simple things can make a huge difference. See how..

1. Change your light bulbs to LEDs or CFLs.
2. Turn off all electric equipment including TV, computers, Music systems etc when not in use. Remember that all appliances consume some power even in sleep mode.
3. Go vegetarian once a week. Rearing meat uses more fresh water and land resouces.

Use a water bottle to fill up from taps suggests Hollywood star Matt Damon
4. Use one less paper napkin per meal or better still use re-usable cloth napkins.
5. Print, write and use both sides of a paper.
6. Carry your own drinking water bottle and fill up at your school, office or home.
7. Brush and shave without running the tap.

Savie water with a bucker bath says Sachin Tendulkar.
India's cricket hero is known to have a bath with just one bucket of water.
8. Take a shorter shower. Or better still a bucket bath.
9. Plant a tree. A tree absorbs a ton of CO2, produces enough oxygen for 2 people, traps storm water and reduces flooding by filtering rainwater into the ground table, shelters birds and other small animals, reduces heating and cooling needs of your home and office and when you plant a fruit tree it gives you wholesome nourishment

Planting fruit trees help provide nourishment to children

At Sustainable Green Initiative, we plant trees to help the fight against climate change and also hunger, poverty and rural migration.  By planting a tree through us you can help in doing your bit to mitigate your carbon footprint.

Planting fruit trees helps combat hunger, poverty and global warming.

Did you know a tree sequesters about 1 ton of carbon and processes enough oxygen for two peoples requirements in its life-time? So what are you waiting for?

Plant a tree today.
