Plant a tree: Ten good reasons we should plant a tree

Trees help in cleaning the air and giving us oxygen

Oxygen-  We all need oxygen to survive. All human activity produces carbon dioxide. Trees take in this CO2 and produce food for themselves. In return they give us oxygen. One mature tree gives enough oxygen for a family of four.

Cleaning the air - Trees absorb the pollutants in the air, taking in all gases that are toxic to human life like Sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide. They also improve the air quality by filtering out fine particulates, which otherwise are the cause of many pulmonary diseases in human beings.

No trees no rainfall

Bring rain- Trees absorb water from the soil and release water vapour from their leaves, stems and flowers. The water vapor adds moisture in the air which aids in cloud formation leading to rainfall.

Prevent soil erosion- Trees help prevent soil erosion caused by wind and rain. The roots of trees hold the soil preventing it getting washed away thereby protecting the soil surface .

Reduce heat - By blocking sunlight and by releasing water vapor through the process of transpiration trees help remove heat energy from the air. Studies have fund that one single tree can produce the cooling effects of ten air conditioners.

Save water - The roots of a single tree can hold up to 30,000 liters of storm water, slowly trickling it down to the ground water aquifers. They prevent water runoff and help in recharging the groundwater.

Control flood- During rainstorms trees help by holding a large amount of water in their roots.Thereby preventing water runoff during heavy rain fall and prevent flooding.

Protect us from ultra-violet rays- Trees filter the sunlight and protect us from the harmful effects of the sun's ultra-violet rays that cause skin cancer. Trees can help reduce the UV ray exposure by almost 50 percent.

Increase the value of property-  We all know trees add beauty to a place.  Real estate agents and realtors mention that having trees around a property can increase its value by more than 15 percent.

Fruit Trees Change Lives

Provide food and medicines-  Trees give us fruits that nurture our bodies. Over the centuries the extract of leaves, barks, roots, seeds, wood and flowers of different trees have been used to make medicines.

Sustainable Green Initiative plants trees in communities to fight hunger, poverty and climate change. To learn how we can help plant trees for your CSR programs, write to us at
